CALL FOR PAPERS:International Symposium on Value Chain of Heavy Oil, October 14-16, 2009, Beijing

Heavy oil and resid processing has become increasingly important in petroleum refining operations due to the depletion of the supply of conventional crude. Although traditional refinery experience has been relied upon for technical support, it is known that residua do not respond well to conventional refining processes. In addition, petroleum refiners are faced with increasing stringent environment regulations. Hence, better understanding and utilization of heavy oil is the key to optimizing refinery operations and technology development.

China National Petroleum Corporate(CNPC) will organize the 5th international heavy oil symposium with China Petroleum University to bring together practicing engineers and researchers who deal with heavy oil and resid processes. Its purpose is to foster in-depth discussion and exchange of ideas on new research results, implications in applying research results, and to identify relevant research needs and directions. Recent research will be presented on the following topics:
 Chemistry and analysis
Heavy to light conversion and transportation
 Catalysis
Clean fuels, petrochemicals, lube oil and by-product utilization
Material handling and corrosion, process water treatment and HSE

In addition to the technical presentations, technical tours to petroleum research institutions in China will be included. This will give symposium participants an opportunity to have a more in-depth overview of heavy oil research and development in China to meet its growing energy demand.

SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACT
Participants who wish to present papers should send their abstracts electronically to one of the symposium secretaries by June 15, 2009. All abstracts will be reviewed and authors will be notified. The accepted papers or Powerpoint presentations will be required by September 15, 2009 and published in the symposium proceedings.
